The Social Map ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and optional profile information such as your display name, city, and profile photo.
Content You Create
We store the places you save, ratings, notes, photos, and other content you create within the app. This content is private by default and only shared with followers you approve.
Location Data
With your permission, we access your device location to show nearby places and help you add locations to your map.
Route recording (GPS tracking) is optional and off until you turn it on in your profile settings. While recording is on, the app collects your location in the background, including when you are using other apps, so that it can show you the route you travelled on a map. The recorded route is stored with your account. You can pause or stop recording at any time in the app, and you can withdraw location access at any time in your device settings.
Waitlist Information
If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address and optionally your city and how you heard about us.
3. How We Use Your Information

4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Your content is only visible to:
- You
- Followers you have explicitly approved
- Trip participants you have invited
We may share anonymized, aggregated data for analytics purposes.
Some features, such as the AI inbox that reads the emails and photos you forward to us, voice notes, and the in-app chat assistant, send the content needed for that feature to AI and speech-processing service providers acting as our processors. They process it on our instructions and return the result to us. Some of these providers are located in the United States. For those transfers we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or, where the provider is certified under it, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, with additional safeguards where needed.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
